We'll travel in a bus at night (80 soles=20.5 €) for 14 hours. Oh my God!!!
Anyway, let’s start from the beginning. The trip Barcelona- Madrid-Lima was quite boring and long but there wasn't any bad experience (Roberto). Well... any bad experience? The landing wasn't very good, I was terrified!! (Nuria).
When we arrived to Lima we had our first surprise, Nuria's suitcase was still in Madrid so we had to come back next day to pick it up and stay an unexpected day more in Lima. All thanks to Iberia!
When we went out of the airport Don César, the taxi driver of the hotel España, was waiting for us. He was a very funny man that was explaining jokes and stories all the ride long. The Hotel España is a very common place for backpackers to go (47 soles=12€ double bedroom ensuite:-)), however you can't expect any luxury. Anyway the building was very nice, the atmosphere was very good and it is very close to the Plaza de Armas, the heart of Lima.
Next day we visited the town: Iglesia de San Francisco, plaza de Armas, plaza San Martín... We didn't see too much because we were quite tired and we were a bit obsessed with the insecurity. However, Lima is not that dangerous at this moment, you'll find police in every corner (just in the tourist areas though). The city is noisy, chaotic and messy. At the beginning you get a bit scared but you get used to it and you are not in danger if you are careful.
We were lucky and we had the opportunity to have lunch with Christelle and Sophie (both of them living in Lima) thanks to Celine ;-). It was nice because we had the opportunity to visit other areas of Lima that we wouldn't have visit without them (not because they are dangerous but because you don't know the place). The neighbourhood we visited is called Barranco, a lot more relaxed and nice than the city centre. It is beside the coast and you get great views of the Pacific. We tasted there the famous ceviche, raw fish with lemon, it's delicious!
After lunch we take a Combi to the airport, as you know to pick the suitcase up. A Comby is a van almost in ruins that works as a Bus and that stops in every single corner shouting over the window to collect people.
At night we meet again Cristelle and Sophie and their boyfriends to have dinner in Miraflores, the neighbourhood on Lima that has more to offer to the tourist and the most secure to go out at night to have a few. It was a pleasure to share some hours with them. After having dinner don Cesar came to pick us up. We were told to always catch secure taxis so, at the moment, we don't take any risk and we use the hotel's taxi.
The next day we took it easy, we visit some other areas of the city centre and we got ready to go to Arequipa.
Well, that's all folks. Take care!

Before we go

We have created this blog with the aim of explaining our trip around Southamerica to our family, friends and anybody that may find it useful to plan his trip.We will be travelling during 58 days around Peru, Blovia and Argerntina, starting tomorrow (23rd of October) from Barcelona. We'll try to update this blog at least once per week.
